The mountain got its name for the nomads called Vlasi. Its highest peak is Opaljenik at 1943 meters.
Vlasic is one of the largest mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has 5 rivers and many springs; it is covered with variety of flora and fauna and enjoys many sunny days. It is beautiful in the winter months as well – snow has been known to cover the mountains 170 days in some years.
Besides natural resources, Vlasic is famous for its geographical position and its wide open valleys.
The city of Travnik is an historic town at the foot of Vlasic, 28 kilometers away connected by two asphalt roads. Travnik is the birth place of the Nobel Prize winner, writer Ivo Andric.

Vlasic is a perfect place for tourists during the summer months. In addition to the forests and rivers, this area of the country is known for its abundance of medical herbs and mushrooms, the raising of livestock, and famous Vlasic cheese. Vlasic is recommended to people with breathing and anemic problems.
River Ugar is rich with trout. The waterfall of the tributary Ugric is a wonderful trip for hot summer days.
During winter the snow cover could reach a height of 2.5 meters. On average there are 170 days of snow cover on the mountain. Tourists can enjoy winter sports on 15 kilometers of terrain and 6 lifts.
You can experience much more on mountain Vlasic beside skiing and collecting herbs. You can swim in the river Ugar, hike, ride horses, visit surrounding villages and towns, and much more, but that we can leave up to your own explorations and the tales of fellow-travelers by the fireplace.
